Lounging on the pull-out sofa, laying our wet clothes out to dry on the bed for lack of an available dryer, snacking in front of cartoons, attempting to cook at the mini-kitchen, new-shoe wearing, internet surfing, and general boredom sums up a lot of what our last month and half has been like. At least the parts of it spent in our hotel room. But we'll be outa here in just a few more days and then the next chapter of our life can officially begin!

We've had a crazy few weeks since starting the PCS/moving process in the beginning of this month, but I wanted to post some snapshots of some of the recent happenings in New York. I still have a lot of photos from our time there that I haven't had a chance to post, but hopefully it'll happen when things slow down a little. Right now we're busy busy busy soaking up time with family in Virginia, but in less than two weeks it'll be time to head over to Germany. Hard to believe!
THE PHOTOS
1. A vintage purse that ended up on the wall instead of in my closet.

2. A muddy faced Asher, from the same batch of photos as his weekly portrait from a couple of weeks ago.
3. The complete collection of Winnie the Pooh. Not quite one of our boys' favorites {Asher's into superheroes and Silas is into trains}, but Pooh definitely holds a spot in my heart!
4. Silas sporting an outfit gifted to Finn. Couldn't stand to wait long enough for Finn to fit into it!
5. Came across all the leftover favor bags from Asher's birthday party when we were getting ready to have our house packed up a couple of weeks back. Might as well have found a chest full of gold as far as the boys were concerned.
6. Cleaned out my accessories drawer. One step closer to a simpler, less cluttered life! Read more about that goal here.
7. As much as I love his new short hair, I can't help but miss those curls a little.
8. Silas' own personal moon.
9. Playing with paint.
10. One of greatest {and worst!} parts about having a house on the market- keeping things as clean as possible- including decluttered bathroom counter tops.
11. Speaking of the moon, here Silas is pointing one out. It's his absolute favorite thing to spot in a book!
12. Fresh white bedding.

Hi, friends. It's been a while
since I've shared a batch of photos like this, mostly because getting
them edited and organized and arranged is surprisingly time consuming! Which is why I've been posting more to my Instagram account lately, so definitely pop over there to see more frequent updates. But anyway, I love capturing these ordinary, everyday moments and putting them together in a way that quietly
celebrates the blessing of family life at home. I have to admit that a lot of my days as a stay at home mom feel like a whirlwind of activity, and it's easy to get lost in all of the "doing" and lose sight of how special it is. But despite it's non-stop, day in and day out nature, it's an absolute privilege to be a wife and a mom and to strive to do it in a way that honors our amazing God. Especially when I can look back and remember that it's often the seemingly simple things that turn out to be best things in life.
1. Is it just me, or are the rest of the moms constantly telling their kids to put their shoes back on?
2. We've been trying to get our fruits, veggies, and nuts via smoothies lately. It's pretty easy to slip some kale and carrots in there without too many complaints from the boys.
3. An old photo of Silas from last winter that I never got around to posting. It was really cute when he started riding around the house on that truck.
4. I've finally put my Hunter's away for the year. I wore them pretty much every single day this past winter because they didn't require any bending over or tying! Not to mention they're waterproof, and those are three very good things when you're in the third trimester and living in the North Country.
5. We've started coloring a lot again, it's one of my personal favorite things to do with the boys! Easy, simple, and relaxing. At least until the crayons turn into wall art or a snack for Silas...
6. This was the side of the chalk wall that was not supposed to be drawn on. Haha, oh well!
7. I love a man in flannel.
8. Some recent paintings by Asher.
9. Phinehas, right around three weeks old!
10. Silas has figured out how to get onto all of the beds with the help of his little school chair.
11. This is the owl that inspired this drawing.
12. A photo that was taken by accident but actually turned out kind of pretty.
13. Baby feet! Finn's, to be more specific. I love it when you finally get to see the little feet that you've felt kicking from the inside.

Sometimes
I wish I could be a fly on another mom's wall. Just to see what a
"normal day" looks like at another home. We have a routine that we try
to stick to, some days it goes well, and other days it doesn't. But
generally, I do my best to make our mornings at home productive. Meaning
plenty of play time, craft time,
book reading, cooking together in the kitchen {we make a lot of
smoothies and dough together} and anything that doesn't involve the TV
being on before 1pm.
Some days this all goes wonderfully and I think "yay, I love being a mom!", and other days I feel defeated before we even start. I wake up wondering how in the world I'm going to muster the energy and motivation and patience that I know I need but just isn't there. I make a point to ask God to help me be good to my boys before I even get out of the bed. But as much as I know that He's with me and ready to help me every second of my day and that I would utterly fail without Him, being a mom is still one of the most challenging and demanding things I've ever done.

But as much as I know that He's with me and ready to help me every second of my day and that I would utterly fail without Him, being a mom is still one of the most challenging and demanding things I've ever done.
I love taking photos of the boys and capturing them in the good moments, and there are so many
good moments. I don't want to minimize the absolute blessing of
motherhood. It means so much more to me than a job or a hobby ever has.
But I also don't want to paint an unrealistic picture of it. What you
don't see in the photos are the tantrums, the fighting, the food all
over the floor, the toilet paper unrolled all over the bathroom for the
thousandth time, the whining over nothing, and worst of all, my selfish,
impatient, and sometimes explosive reaction to it. Granted, the long
cold winter indoors and being massively pregnant and tired doesn't help.
But oh my goodness, sometimes it's just plain hard no matter what the
circumstances.
And
to be perfectly honest? Sometimes it's the days that I give up and
don't worry over the details that are the best; the days that the TV is
on way too long that I get the space to just relax and stop tallying the
success or failure of my every move. I do my best to not let those days
happen too often... But when they do, I'm learning to be okay with it. I
don't want to be a super-mom. Whatever that really means, it sounds
exhausting. I'm okay with being a far-from-perfect mom that leans on
Jesus and finds her identity in who He says I am; loved, accepted,
redeemed, forgiven, most definitely imperfect, but empowered for good by His strength. And then passing the knowledge of Him onto my boys.
I
know I'll never be a perfect mom. But I want to be one that shows them
what it means to rely on God, ask for forgiveness, and humbly press on
when sin gets the best of me {yet another thing I need to work on doing
better}. I'd rather have it that way than to parade a false exterior of
perfection that masks the bankrupt nature of our souls apart from our
Redeemer.
This
isn't a self-serving anthem to quit trying, because I always want to do
my best. I think it's more of a realization that "my best" is often a
moot point when it's anchored in anything else other than Christ. And
it's when I get my gaze fixed on Him- where it belongs- that He brings
me out of the fog long enough to remember that I am blessed beyond
belief. That I'm an undeserving but ever grateful daughter of God and that I have a beautiful family that I would not trade for the world.
All this being said, I still want to peak in on the day to day lives of other moms! I still want to feel like I'm doing okay and to remember that we're in this together. To have the fellowship and community and support that only others in these {very busy} shoes can offer. Isn't it wonderful when we do get that? I am so thankful to all of you who rejoice with me, sympathize with me, and just flat out understand the blessing and challenge of motherhood!

1. Toddler/puppy Mom lesson of the week; separate Willow from the boys when the fingerpaint comes out!
2. The fireplace mantel. I can never quite figure out what to put on it but maybe it's "done" now.
3. Came across some old sketches of mine. The little house was our first real home together when we were stationed in Hawaii.
4. No longer fitting in my favorite {non-maternity} boyfriend-cut jeans. It was bound to happen, but I miss them.
5. Always have to sneak at least one bite of the boys' grilled cheese sandwiches.
6. One of the photos from our last dough making excursion that I showed a little of in last weeks 52 Week Photo Project post.
7. Got rid of ALL of our mismatching sets of mugs and replaced them with really simple, elegant clear ones. Part of the goal to simplify!
8. Silas likes to mix paint with his hands more than he likes to make any designs on paper.
9. Caught you, Thane!
10. "For no word from God will ever fail". {Luke 1:37} Amen.
11. Chipped nail polish. It never lasts long on me.
12. Asher working on his letters. He's growing up fast!
