This little nook in our upstairs hallway sat bare for a long time. It was one of those spaces we dreamed of making something special out of since we first moved in, but it just wasn't high on the priority list. One of the great things about it is it gets lots of beautiful light throughout the day. It was originally a dark army green that wasn't all that attractive, and to be honest I wasn't sure what to do with it. Then the chalk wall idea came along! I gave the entire room a coat of this black chalk paint. Once the walls were finished I added the mid century style arm chair and the director's stool {both thrifted for a total of $6}, and a half circle zebra rug and woven basket I already had. It used to hold nice books- hence the "reading nook" idea- but after they started getting used more like toys than reading material, they went up high in another spot. The linen curtains came from T.J. Max and I found the Yucca plant from the garden department at Walmart. The art is mine. Oh, and the hardware and legs on the directors stool were originally wood but I painted over it and gave it the white and gold-dipped leg look. It's hard to see from these photos, but the fabric on top is a light grass green.
And now that the weather is cooling down, we're finally getting some
real use out of the chalk wall! It's a cozy little spot to sit with the
boys as they enjoy some unhindered drawing-on-the-wall fun.
What about you guys? Has anyone else jumped on board the chalk wall trend?
